Part12: 5 Tips on Backlink Building

Backlinks are the backbone of your websites reputation. High quality backlinks means better reputation which leads to targeted and high traffic. But search engines require that links to your website must come naturally. Now you can either wait for years for other websites to link to you and there is no guarantee they would do that, or you can follow these tips and build natural looking backlinks much faster.

In this lesson I am going to expound upon the characteristics of high quality backlinks and what search engines expect from website that rank higher. Next lesson would reveal the actual sources you can use to build these links.

Make it look natural:

First step in building backlinks is that they should look natural to the search engines. This means link building should be a random process. You can’t do it in a mechanical way. You can’t build links daily or you can’t build a set amount of links, at least you shouldn’t. If you always link to your homepage, this would also make the search engines suspicious of your activity. But it is also a fact that most of the websites will link to homepage of your website. So link building can be a critical step on your journey to an optimized website.

Diversify the links:

diversify the links

Diversity should be in what is linked and how is it linked. You should always link random pages or posts from your website. Don’t link back to a single page each time you submit an article for link building. Similarly don’t always add your link at the end of your article. Make it look like the requirement of your article to include the link. Add links at random places in the articles like first paragraph, middle or end.

If you have the option to post two links in an article, direct one to homepage and other to a random post in your blog. Homepage having more links than other pages is natural.

Diversify the link sources:

Sources that link to your content should also be varied. Don’t keep posting in hubpages only or ezines only. Use all possible approaches given in the next lesson for better link building. Write a couple articles in ezine directory then move to hubpages. Having done that, try writing a guest blog post for a fellow blogger to link to you. Blog comments and forum posting should also not be ignored. Links coming from different sources will make it appear natural to search engines and your rankings will shoot off.

More links to homepage than individual pages:

I can’t stress this enough, homepage has got have more links than others. Just think to yourself, will a person remember a simple domain name or a long URL? Same is the case with people who link to you. Most importantly, when you post your website name to a social profile, it is only the top level domain not a URL to some post. So homepage must have more links than other posts, it is just like that.

Relevancy matters:

relevancy matters

Another very important aspect is the relevancy of links. Now search engines don’t capture this parameter. They will still count a link from an irrelevant source to be valid. But the traffic coming from irrelevant source will simply be embarrassed and leave at once. If you are expecting to generate some leads, then you must target the right audience. You can do that by posting your links to relevant forums, blogs or relevant article directories. If your website is about SEO and you link to a funny article, people who will land on your website via that link will have no interest in it whatsoever. On the other hand if it was liked to some other search engines related article, people landing on your website will certainly find it useful and may even bookmark it for future reference.

When you are using the sources from next article to build links to your website, always remember these tips so that you get the most out of your effort.
